Team Whoop Ass is back on top. They look to add a 6th ring in their title defense. Will anyone get in their way?

Once again, the holey board Kings are on top of the game. With the field as strong as ever, we may see a newcomer make a run at the title.

One sheet of plywood, four two by threes, some cheap carpet, a cold beer and some power tools. That’s all it takes to make a new board. It’s incredibly simple to make these boards, but it takes time to do it right.

Six washers, two boards, cold beer and some good friends. That’s all it takes to play a game of Holey Board. But once a summer, our fun casually competitive game elevates itself to a new level. At the Al Whitsen Memorial Tournament, the last 10 years have brought out the best players, incredible tosses, and moments that will be talked about throughout the ages.

But you knew all this, so why read on? Well, its time to dissect the players that will be vying for the title of best Holey Board players. This will be the second year in a row with a field of forty teams. Every team brings its own flair, play style, clutch moments, and heart break. Only one team - two players - can claim the crown, but we all start with a chance to win it all and that’s all that we need. So welcome all, and let’s dive into the field of the 2025 Al Whitsen Holey Board Memorial tournament.

Harry & Adam

A whole hand of rings. The reigning champs. Forever the hunted. You know them, you’re sick of them winning, but you fear them. They have won every way possible and every year they find a way to do it again. Harry, like all-time greats, finds new ways to stay motivated, so here’s your bulletin board Big Haus – we love you and you're so good at Holey Board. Adam, his trusted partner, just must keep from getting tilted and he’ll do his job.

George & Jake

The one-time champions are motivated to prove their early exit last year was the anoomly and not the new norm. While divided by a full continent, these two have excellent chemistry which started way back in the Jefferson school yard. Each now with a permanent homestead to practice their games; situational play is the only shortcoming. George will be lighting the beam if he can finally add a second ring to his collection. Jake will dedicate his win to his lovely little girl if he can add his second ring.

Shawn & Alexa

Shalexa! Married and ready to show the world what new long lasting love can bring to the boards. After a summer of bringing us together to what some have called, “A top 5 wedding of all time,” these two return to Redondo Beach to put their new marriage to its first test. Intel from Costa Rica has told us their Chemistry is at an all time high, but the time on boards is lacking. If love conquers all, then Shalexa will say “I Do!”

Vinny & Don

Back in the dead washer era, this father son duo made a earned a finals berth. Just like the Angels in 2012 these two have not been able to repeat their deep run – and their fans are considering a paper bag of the head boycott. These two have been spending their time reading the boards, getting a feel for the wind, and making sure they have the club in the bag for the situation. Oh wait, this is a Holey Board report not a bad Golf Report – they should probably get off the links and onto the boards soon.

Robin & Katherine

The Mothers Kirchner are back, but this year they have an extra motivator. Speaking of, have you seen how cute Dino is??? And she’s so bubbly and just the star of the show. She’s taking all the notes and with all the love from her parents, grandparents and framily about she’ll be a Holey Board Prodigy. Sorry, you’re here to read about Robin and Katherine, and yes, they are a good team, but we only care about Baby K.

Kevin & Kenau

All it took was three fives to send them running from the competition. Just like the local LA Chargers this team is all about off-season hype only to let us all down when the big moments arrive. After last year’s devastating pool play loss, Kev and Kenau are ready to prove all the off-season hype right. Look out for their new uniforms – they always look good.

Val & Fran

What do you think the best teams do to get ready for the tournament? Practice all day in a local backyard? Not Val and Fran, they jetted off to the south of France and the Greek Islands for some hardcore vibes training. Champagne, Wine and Greek men is the diet of champions. If you need to get these Miami girls a drink get mom water and get out of their way. In case of emergency call Alex Earl for help.

Dan & Perry

BREAKING NEWS: Local authorities report that a mass goomba murderer has been seen in the area. Be aware that he is being accompanied by a notorious CEO exterminator. Both are extremely dangerous. If seen play with caution – they are known for attacking all three levels on the holey board. Like all Italians, a good old mozzarella is known to neutralize these two in their tracks. If not taken care of, a run to the finals has been a known activity of these two.

Emily & Kelly

Defying odds and gravity to become popular, that’s right they are going to be pop-U-lar. Will living with two of the legends of the tournament translate to actual results on the holey boards? With parents in attendance, Kelly is hoping to make a showing to cement her place by Harrys side. Please make sure to congratulate Emily on becoming a new homeowner and thank her for not capitulating to rent price gouging (if confused speak to George).

Mary & Mel

Bears are active throughout the Felton Court Cul-de-sac. While only dangerously good party bears inhabit the neighborhood, historically, good holey board bears have also called Redondo Beach home, and many scientists believe that these bears are making a comeback. From recent reports the local bears have been known to be open to sharing their honey with eager Holey Board Players. The Holey Board Organization is not responsible for any Good Times that will occur when interacting with the bears.

Micah & Liana

Sluts against sweeps returns to the boards centered on the belief that everyone on earth – sons, daughters, cats, turtles, etc. – are indeed sluts and that they should not tolerate any sweeps on the boards. These former Semi-Finalists will only shame when a sweep occurs. Still just as formidable as ever, Micah and Liana are battle tested and ready to attack all those who oppose their righteous mission. Sweeps, you have been warned, the sluts are out!

Danny & Lisa

The two-time champs are back and ready to roll. While I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are very glad our lives are no longer dictated by their ever presence. While some say their arrival in early 2020 was a sign of greatness, the back-to-back victories cemented them as one of the all time teams in this sport. Not only were they good enough to win the whole tournament, but they have also demolished every competitor in front of them, going 21-0 every time they have played a competitive game. Covid-19 is back to win a third ring! Please give Danny and Lisa a big thank you for being our Hosts once again!

Chris & Spencer

How the mighty have fallen. From winning an all-time ring, in a match for the ages, Chris and Spencer have not been able to find the magic and we are starting to ask if they are washed? At a crossroads will Chris and Spencer become the 2009 an onwards Steelers? Still good enough to strike fear into every team they play, but not good enough to make a deep run. Open that early knock round TV slot, these guys will be there again.

Mike & Bill

Change is scary. Professional golfers in search of new magic will cut ties with trusted caddies to bring in fresh blood. NFL teams will spend years rotating through QBs – think Vikings over the last few years – looking for the right one. Well Mike and Bill have both decided to switch it up and make a change in hopes that their new partnerships bring glory. Usually, a big change like this takes a few years to work out the kinks, but these two don’t have the time to wait for success. Will the gamble pay off? It’s time to put up or shut up.

Dylan & Robbie

PSA: Don’t throw beer cans away when your finger is near the lip around tournament time. Dylan learned this the hard way and is dealing with a serious finger injury heading into the tournament. While not a devastating blow, Robbie is stuck wondering how he got so unlucky with his partner pick. After the last years’ deep run, Robbie and Dylan are no longer the hunters, but the hunted and will need to ensure all appendages stay intact.

Evan & Walter

Your friendly competitive park rangers have two goals this year – finding and enjoying the good time bears and dominating on the boards. Deadly accurate with washers and bear tranquilizers, being a fountain of musical knowledge, and bringing that lets have a good time attitude, these two want you to enjoy your stay and hang out as late as you want. If they continue to improve on their holey board success, they’ll be happy!

Jake & Albi

The dangerous duo is back for another chance at glory. A lot has changed since a year ago. Albi the now father of a nearly one year old is all focused on showing his lineage what a true champion on the board looks like. Jake meanwhile has been proudly repping his team USA, coaching the US team to glory and showing his team what winning looks like at all levels. While their lives are on the upswing, too much time away from the board might be too much to overcome.

Emma & Josh

Every year Emma and Josh try to hide away from the spotlight. Not wanting us to know how good they are at the game, but it’s our job to tell you that they are still the real deal. While only playing a handful of games every off season, when we catch a glimpse of their game, we are reminded that form comes and goes, but talent is permanent. Be ready for a fight against these two, they’ll be bringing it.

Josh & Walsh

When duty calls, that is when character counts. Honor bound to the game, Josh and Walsh came together to ensure that this tournament could not and would not fail. Shall we call them saviours of the tournament? Each has been around the game long enough to know that it does not matter who, when or where the games are played, if you show up and are competitive, you have a chance to win it all.

Gus & Nick

Some South Bay local legends team up for another year and are ready to challenge everyone in their path. Gus and Nick have been consistent players in the Holey Board tournament and have consistently been a very tough out for all those that have to play these guys. Our scouts have seen them all over town at various local watering holes, but we have yet to spot them on the boards.

Mark & Lori

Hold the phone! The long-time partners back together for another chance to taste glory. As always be weary of the House Rules, they change game to game. Mark still crafty as ever is ready to help his PARTNER. Hoping to avoid first year Big 10 USC vibes Lori will look to take her game back to the golden age of Trojan Holey Board – scoring fast and often and playing that same song over and over again.

Jake & Dane

Will this tournament be Jake & Danes Liverpool season or Boston’s postseason? Both outcomes are very likely when these two get on the boards. Dane calm cool collected. Jake loves his milk. Dane, willing to push himself to be the brightest star in the game. Jake loves his milk. Jake and Dane, the former co-workers, still current roommates, and mango-shota aficionados are ready to battle.

Alex & John

One year after a heart-break loss to their archrivals, Alex and John are determined not to repeat a tough exit. John has been back on his intense training regimen. This is what keeps him deadly accurate at all levels of the game. Alex, meanwhile, has not been able to replicate the hours on the board this season, which might come back to hurt him in the long run. Will Phase Three Alex and John prevail?

Preston & TBD

A mystery player is approaching. While we don’t know who is partnering with Preston, we can assume that they will be ready to battle. Preston coming off a rather large off-season – getting married and all that – is hoping that magic helps his game. While love helps many things in life, it doesn’t make the holes any bigger or the lights of the tournament any softer. Let’s see who Preston brings to battle it out for glory.

Jan & Lori Ann

The queens needed some continuity. Another year together, another year stronger, another year to prove that our host is the best. After a decent 2024, Jan and Lori-Ann step back onto the boards together to prove that they are the best Whitsen and best Harbidge in the tournament. Frankly, we know they are. Both have brought serious talent and are lovely competitors, looking to take down all those in their path. Jan thank you so much for hosting us! We love being here every year!

Bob & Tom

Get the Salty Dogs out! Bob and Tom are back for another year. Two of the more competitive people to play in this tournament. Don’t get on their bad side or you’ll be in trouble. Tom is your classic yard game player and while we haven’t seen him play holey board, his short golf game will help him find the hole. Bob, meanwhile, has been getting into some much-needed practice and is ready to be the big time player he knows he is.

Erik & Barry

Never has a more likely duo stepped up to the competition. Tall Blonde and Handsome is the name of the game with these two- Texas and California have never seemed more similar. We know that each is skilled, but we have yet to see chemistry fly when they play together. We expect each to bring their best self to the boards. Make sure you're to have your Guns Up! when playing them or you’ll be somewhere on the sideline shortly.

Garrett & Amber

The youngest Harbidge and his girl are out to prove that he’s the pride of the family. Let’s hope that this is the year that his game is actually better than his UFC picks. Garrett brings a reliable toss and big energy to his game. Amber will really need to step up to the plate to show that she belongs on the boards. It will be fun to see these two compete!

Kara & Steve

Thank the lord, we didn’t scare these two away after last year. Kara and Steve exude a love for life that will leave you feeling so full of joy after you play them. Another summer of missing them in action, their games last year were competitive, and we anticipate more of the same this year. Expect Kara and Steve to bring their infectious enthusiasm and show us all that this game is worth playing.

Jason & Danial

Long-time friends from The West Side, Jason and Danial return to the boards for their second consecutive tournament run. Seasoned with street smarts and loyalty forged over years, this duo brings undeniable chemistry and that signature West Side swagger. Last year was the warm-up—this year, they’re playing to win.

Tom & Duane

New blood alert! Tom and Duane are stepping onto the Holey Board stage for the first time—and let’s just say, the scouts are watching closely. Hailing from parts unknown and bringing zero tournament reps with them, these two are the wildest of wild cards. But in a field that respects hustle and heart, that might just be enough.

Justin & Sara

From quarterfinalists to fiancés, Justin and Sara are back—and now they’ve got more than just washers on their ring fingers. Last year, their “shot-for-a-win” strategy turned every victory into both a celebration and a cautionary tale. By the time the quarterfinals rolled around, the drinks had caught up—and so had their opponents. This year? Rumor has it they're trading tequila for tactical discipline.

Whitney & Ryan

With a show-stopping Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift costume that had the crowd screaming “You Belong with Me,” Whitney and Ryan claimed the coveted costume crown and proved they came to play. While their washer game is still developing, what they lack in board dominance they do more than make up for in pure commitment to the bit. Whitney’s rocking a new accessory: a baby bump.

Jordan & Brig

Straight out of Loyola and proudly rocking that C4L energy, Jordan and Brig bring years of friendship, quiet confidence, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. These two spent high school dodging nuns and Coach Lalo Diaz. This squad has real potential. Just don’t ask them to spell “Jesuit” after a few rounds.

Jake & Schneal

Nobody’s quite sure how Jake & Schneal got here. A favor called in? A bold move by the selection committee? One thing’s for certain—they’re in the tournament. Some say Schneal is a nickname. Others say it’s a lifestyle. Jake reportedly throws washers like he’s never held one before… and somehow lands them anyway. Chaos team? Absolutely.

Andy & Tiana

Fresh off a dreamy European adventure through Scandinavia, Andy & Tiana return to the states well-rested, well-traveled. The food Instagram’s did look really good. They’ve been soaking up fjords, fika, and fresh air while the rest of us have been grinding it out in backyard practice sessions. Will the trip abroad hurt their chances or just create more chaos.

Lara & Jen

Back for another year of causing trouble and tossing washers. Jennifer’s been out in Moab, sharpening her focus among the red rocks and bringing some desert zen to her washer game. Lara, meanwhile, has been soaking up Chargers training camp, scouting out plays and probably yelling “run the damn ball” at practice. One thing’s for sure: they’ll play you tough, chirp in your ear, and smile the whole way through.

Patrick & Garrett

The creative force behind the tournament set up and the big brain are back together to prove they have what it takes. A few years of playing together and we are still questioning if Garrett’s brain power will rise him to the moment or will it cripple him? Patrick, known for coming in clutch all the time, will have to dig deep to live up to the expectations the Big Biscuit placed on him. Give Patrick a huge shoutout when you see him. All the backdrops, signage, website and more is all him.

Team Unknown

Player A & Player B Mysterious. Puzzling. Fantastic. Terrible. Beastly. Dreadful. You know as much as we do. Could be amazing. Could flame out. Come find out and cheer.
